How do I manage Flash audio & video?

The Adobe Flash plugin lets you hear and see Flash audio and video content on Brave on your computer.

Note: Adobe will stop supporting Flash at the end of 2020.

Let sites play Flash videos, animations, and games

Only let Flash run on websites that you trust. Some websites might use Adobe Flash Player to harm your computer.

If you quit Brave, your Flash settings won’t be saved. The next time you open Brave, you’ll have to allow Flash again for any sites you added before.

  1. When you visit a page you trust that has Flash content, click Click to enable Adobe Flash Player.
  2. Click Allow.

The site needs Flash to work

If a website isn’t working, you might need to change your settings to allow Flash.

  1. To the left of the web address, click the Lock icon .
  2. At the bottom, click Site Settings.
  3. In the new tab, to the right of "Flash," click the Down arrow Allow.
  4. Go back to the site and reload the page.

Change your Flash settings

Block all sites from using Flash

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More  and then Settings.
  3. At the bottom, click Advanced.
  4. Under Privacy and security, click Site settings.
  5. Click Flash.
  6. At the top, turn off Ask first (recommended).

Remove a site you blocked or allowed

  1. At the top right, click More icon_MM.png --> Settings.
  2. At the bottom, click Advanced.
  3. Under "Privacy and security," click Site settings.
  4. Click Flash.
  5. To the right of the site, click Remove Remove.

Fix problems with Flash

If Flash isn't working or you see the following error messages, try the troubleshooting steps below.

  • Adobe Flash has been blocked because it's out of date
  • Couldn’t load plugin
  • The following plugins were blocked on this page
  • This plugin is not supported
  • A plug-in (Shockwave Flash) isn't responding

Step 1: Turn on Flash

Only allow Flash to run on websites that you trust. 

  1. On your computer, open Brave.
  2. Go to the site with the video or game. 
  3. To the left of the web address, click Lock Lock View site information.
  4. At the bottom, click Site Settings.
  5. In the new tab, to the right of "Flash," click the Down arrow Down arrow and then Allow.
  6. Go back to the site and reload the page.

Step 2: Update Flash

  1. On your computer, open Brave.
  2. In the address bar at the top, enter chrome://components and press Enter.
  3. Look for Adobe Flash Player.
  4. Click Check for update.
  5. If you see "Component not updated" or "Component updated," you're on the latest version.
  6. Go back to the page with the Flash content. If it doesn't open automatically, at the top left, click Reload Reload.

Step 3: Update Brave

  1. On your computer, open Brave.
  2. At the top right, click Menu icon_MM.png.
  3. Click Update brave. If you don't see this button, you're on the latest version.
  4. Click Relaunch.

Step 4: Reinstall Flash

Make sure that you only install Flash from Adobe's website.
  1. On your computer, open Brave.
  2. Go to the flash website.
  3. Under "Step 1," select your computer's operating system.
  4. Under "Step 2," choose the option that lists "PPAPI."
  5. Click Download now, and follow the steps to install Flash.

How do I fix page crashes and other page loading errors?

What is a Private Window?

A private window in Brave prevents Internet browsing history, form data, cookies and site data from being saved once you close the window. Private browsing stops Brave from saving browsing activity beyond the current session; however, you activity  may  still be visible to: Certain websites you visit (this includes the ads and resources used on those sites) The owner/Administrator of your network  Your internet service provider Note that some cookies and site data may be saved  for the session , but will not be remembered when the browser is closed.  Downloads and bookmarks are still saved even after closing a private window.
